a half comedy that wants so badly to be a romcom. this is a world without the beatles, and it would be a much more interesting cinematic world if it interrogated questions of culture and society: is it better to live with imitations of greatness than to be absent of the masterpieces, after all? how might we continue as a society, absent the indelible impact of our greatest works?

midnights paces back and forth on the wooden floorboards. taylor doesn’t reflect as much as she stews; hears the quiet of her memory claw itself to the surface like white noise. like the scratches the needle has to persist before music lifts from the vinyl. like that thumping bass from another room, relentless and tenebrous. like it wants something from you, and it couldn’t get enough in the daylight hours.

a coastal granddaughter love triangle, caught between two brothers. the soundtrack could hardly be more perfect if it tried—taylor, bleachers, olivia, phoebe, carly. *and* bon iver. plus billie and ariana just for kicks. this show has confirmed that i have officially aged out of the ya romance demographic. but jenny han's production gives the series such a soft, serene touch. it's so loveable.

curated domesticity envelopes this album; and make no mistake, he wrote this in the cozy blanket of indoor quarantine vibes. i have learned one truth from the most recent harry styles album cycle: he is not a good lyricist. but that’s okay. he has a great voice and an even better production team; amplified by lots of suave charisma and rocker flair that carry his sound further than other contemporary young male artists.

the perfect goodbye

this show has been a rollercoaster, but still has so much heart. it's been through a lot, from near cancellation at the end of season 05, to a surprise revival and reckoning after the past two years. it ends in a resoundingly satisfying way.

this movie is, at lukewarm best, world war ii spy thriller fanfiction for men. and shots of ralph fiennes looking rather sad.

don't trust a goodreads rec, because this book was bad. the main characters had sad backstories, but no personality. can't tell you anything about them that wasn't written outright in first-person narration.

the book, the hating game, is a masterpiece in the romcom genre. this adaptation reminds me of how nuanced and gorgeous sally thorne's book was: it's characters vivid, likeably unlikeable, and absolutely magnetic in how they play off each other. however; this film gets most of the setup of the leads, but complete misses the mark in the long course of rising action. the back two-thirds of this is * not * great however it is still a little charmed. the set design is probably the best part.

quaint british nostalgia, personified. some highlights: the golden trio are a little family, the media is still on the emma watson/tom felton train, and what a gift was it to grow up alongside some of the greatest english thespians (the moment where the kids were learning to be people; and figuring out what it meant to do this acting gig at the same time)
